[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *spliHȷ́ʰā́, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)pli(H)ǵʰḗn.[1] Cognate with Ancient Greek σπλήν (splḗn) (whence English spleen), Latin lien, Avestan 𐬯𐬞𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬰𐬀𐬥 (spərəzan), Old Armenian փայծաղն (pʻaycałn), Russian селезёнка (selezjónka), Lithuanian blužnis, Persian اسپرز (esporz).
