Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *pʰáynas (“foam, saliva”). Cognate with Lithuanian spáinė, Russian пе́на (péna), Latin pūmex (“pumice”), spuma (“froth”), Old English fām (whence English foam).
