Probably from a Proto-Indo-European *bʰeǵʰ- (outside), which appears to be a formation from *bʰe (instrumental particle) + *-ǵʰs (out), in which case cognate with Proto-Slavic *bez, Lithuanian , Latvian bez, Old Prussian bhe.[1]
