Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Northwestern Indo-Aryan, whence Punjabi مُٹّھی (muṭṭhī), from Prakrit 𑀫𑀼𑀝𑁆𑀞𑀺 (muṭṭhi) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit मुष्टि (muṣṭi), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *muštíš (“fist”). Doublet of मुष्टि (muṣṭi), मुश्त (muśt), and मूठ (mūṭh). Cognate to Persian مشت (mošt).
