Inherited from Prakrit 𑀫𑀼𑀝𑁆𑀞𑀺 (muṭṭhi, “fist”), from Sanskrit मुष्टि (muṣṭí), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *muštíš.[1] Compare the synonymous Magahi चँदवा (cãdᵊvā), चाँदी (cā̃dī, “plough knob”).
