From Proto-Indo-Iranian *HyátʰaH (“as, like”), from Proto-Indo-European *Hyós. Compare Avestan 𐬫𐬀𐬚𐬁‎ (yaθā) and Old Persian 𐎹𐎰𐎠 (y-θ-a /yaθā/).
