Inherited from Old Marathi राहणे (rāhaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀭𑀳𑀇 (rahaï), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *ráźʰati, but of uncertain ultimate origin. See Sanskrit रहस् (rahas) for details.
Cognate to Konkani राव्चे (rāvce), Gujarati રહેવું (rahevũ), Hindi रहना (rahnā), Nepali रहनु (rahanu), Assamese ৰোৱা (rüa).
