Inherited from Apabhramsa लक्कुड (lakkuḍa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀇𑀓𑀸- (-ikā-), from Prakrit 𑀮𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀼𑀟 (lakkuḍa), from Sanskrit लकुट (lakuṭa, club). Compare Gujarati લાકડું (lākḍũ, wood), Marathi लाकूड (lākūḍ, wood).
