Inherited from Early Assamese অকল (okolo), একল (ekolo), from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀏𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀮𑁆𑀮 (ekkalla), from Sanskrit এক্কল (ekkala). Cognate with Bengali একলা (ekola), Sylheti ꠄꠇꠟꠣ (exola), Odia ଏକଲା (ekalā), Hindi अकेला (akelā).
