Inherited from Sanskrit इष्टका (iṣṭakā), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *íṣṭakaH, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ištaH (brick), possibly from the BMAC substrate. Cognate with Hindi ईंट (ī̃ṭ) , Punjabi ਇੱਟ (iṭṭa) / اِٹّ (iṭṭ), Gujarati ઈંટ (ī̃ṭa), Marathi वीट (vīṭ), Ōṛiā ଇଟା (iṭā).
