Locative of ওরফ (ōroph), borrowed from Classical Persian عرف ('urf), from Arabic عُرْف (ʕurf, “tradition, convention”), with semantic shift (as an alias is a traditional alternative). Cognate with Hindi उर्फ़ (urf).
