Etymology[edit]
Syncopated from earlier গামোছা (gamōcha, “body wiper”), from গা (ga) + মোছা (mōcha). Cognate with Sylheti ꠉꠣꠝ꠆ꠍꠣ (gamsá) and Assamese গামোচা (gamüsa). Compare রুমাল (rumal), with similar semantics and etymology.
