Borrowed from Persian گوشت (gušt), from Middle Persian [script needed] (gosht), from Avestan 𐬔𐬁𐬊 (gāo) + 𐬙𐬀𐬥𐬎 (tanu). Possibly related to Sanskrit गो (, ox, cow) + तनू (tanū, body).
