Inherited from Middle Bengali ঢিঠ (ḍhiṭh), from Prakrit 𑀥𑀺𑀝𑁆𑀞 (dhiṭṭha), from Sanskrit धृष्ट (dhṛṣṭa). Doublet of ডাঁট (ḍãṭ). Cognate with Punjabi ਢੀਠ (ḍhīṭh), Nepali ढिटो (ḍhiṭo), Gujarati ધીટ (dhīṭ), Hindi ढीठ (ḍhīṭh), Marathi धीट (dhīṭ).
