[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀧𑀁𑀘 (paṃca), from Ashokan Prakrit 𑀧𑀁𑀘 (paṃca), from Sanskrit पञ्चन् (páñcan), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *pánća, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *pánča, from Proto-Indo-European *pénkʷe. Doublet of પંજ (pañj). Cognate with Punjabi ਪੰਜ (pañj), Marathi पाच (pāc), Nepali पाँच (pā̃c), Bengali পাঁচ (pãc), Hindi पाँच (pā̃c). Distantly cognate with English five.
