[edit]Ultimately inherited from Sanskrit पञ्च (páñca), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *pánča, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *pénkʷe; but also unusually heavily influenced by Classical Persian پنج (panj), an Indo-Iranian cognate. Compare with other descendants of Prakrit 𑀧𑀁𑀘 (paṃca).
