Etymology 1

Inherited from Sanskrit *सवार (*savāra). Compare Sanskrit सकाल (sakāla, seasonable, opportune, early in the morning), from स- (sa-, adjectival prefix) +‎ काल (kāla, time); regarding the semantics, the morning is considered as an important time for various Hindu practices. Cognate with Gojri سَویر (saver), Kachchi સવાર (savār), Marwari सवार (savār), Sindhi سوارو (svāro) / सवारो (savāro, early).
