Related to Telugu నోత (nōta, “the performance of a devotional act”), Telugu నోము (nōmu, “to perform a religious act out of devotion, a devotion-motivated religious act.”). Cognate with Tamil நோல், நோன், நோற்ப், நோற்ற் (nōl, nōṉ, nōṟp, nōṟṟ, “to endure or suffer hunger as a form of penance or austerity.”), Tamil நோற்பு (nōṟpu, “perform penance.”), Tamil நோற்பார் (nōṟpār, “ascetic.”), Tamil நோன்பு, நோம்பு (nōṉpu, nōmpu, “fasting.”), Tamil நோன்மை (nōṉmai, “endurance, strength, greatness.”), Tamil நோன்றல் (nōṉṟal, “patience.”). Kannada ನೋನ್, ನೋನ್ತ್ (nōn, nōnt, “to observe a religious vow, to perform penance as an act of devotion.”), Kannada ನೋನಿಸು, ನೋಮ್ಪಿ, ನೋಮ್ಪು (nōnisu, nōmpi, nōmpu, “act of devotion or austerity to please god.”).
