Ultimately from Sanskrit एति (éti), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *Háyti, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Háyti, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁éyti. Cognate with Konkani येव्चे (yevce), Marathi येणे (yeṇe).
