From Proto-Southwestern Tai *ɡraːnᶜ (lazy), from Old Chinese (OC *raːnʔ, “lazy”).[1] Cognate with Lao ຄ້ານ (khān), ᦆᦱᧃᧉ (xaan2), Shan ၶၢၼ်ႉ (khâ̰an).
