Noun[edit]

สมเด็จ (sǒm-dèt)

  1. an honorific for or term of address to a god, priest, royal person, or noble person.

Usage notes[edit]

  • The present term, สมเด็จ (sǒm-dèt), may be combined with พระบาท (prá-bàat; literally "divine feet") as พระบาทสมเด็จ (prá-bàat-sǒm-dèt) when used as an honorific for a monarch who has been crowned formally. As for a monarch that has not or not yet crowned formally, he is only entitled to สมเด็จ (sǒm-dèt).
