Etymology

Of uncertain origin. Possibly from Lua error in Module:parameters at line 159: Parameter 2 should be a valid language, etymology language or family code; the value mkh-okm is not valid. See WT:LOL, WT:LOL/E and WT:LOF., whose origin is not known. Compare Modern Khmer សៀម (siəm), ស្យាម (syaam).

Officially used as the name of the country from the reign of Mongkut (1851–68) until 24 June 1939, when the country was renamed ไทย (tai, Thailand).
