Particularly: “Is this borrowed from Chinese? The usage of the "mai chattawa" tone marker suggests this is likely. Note similarities to (tóu, “to throw”), perhaps as "throwing dice" (the pronunciation of the Chinese in southern lects like Cantonese is particularly close to the Thai).”
