Etymology 1

From Middle Chinese (MC 'jit, “one”). Cognate with Lao ເອັດ (ē ʼat), Shan ဢဵတ်း (ʼáet), Ahom 𑜒𑜢𑜄𑜫 (ʼit), Bouyei idt, Zhuang it, Tai Nüa ᥟᥥᥖᥱ (ʼět).
