Thai[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Pre-Angkorian Old Khmer do (two), from Pali du (two) or dvi (two).

Pronunciation[edit]

Orthographic/Phonemic โท
o d
Paiboon too
(standard) IPA(key) /tʰoː˧/
Homophones โทร

Adjective[edit]

โท (too)

  1. second.

Derived terms[edit]

Numeral[edit]

โท (too)

  1. (dated) two.

Usage notes[edit]

There was a suggestion to read "two" as โท (too) while calling or saying a phone number, to distinguish from สาม (sǎam), due to dated low-quality voicing technology. Nowadays, the "two" can be normally read as สอง (sɔ̌ɔng).
