From Proto-Tibeto-Burman *s-ŋar (frost, ice); cognate with Akha [script needed] (ŋɛ́, ice) (STEDT). Luce gives Old Chinese (OC *njaŋ, “dewy”) as a cognate;[1] this is supported by Coblin.
