From Old Georgian ბრძოლა (brʒola), from Proto-Georgian-Zan *brʒ₁-. Cognate with Mingrelian ბურჯაფი (burǯapi).

Etymology[edit]

Ultimately from Proto-Georgian-Zan *brʒ₁-. Klimov further derives *brʒ₁- from Proto-Kartvelian *b(o)rg- (to wrestle), but this is disputed by Starostin.
