Etymology

According to Diakonoff, derived by metathesis from the name of the country called 𒆳𒋢𒄭 (/⁠Suḫmu⁠/) in Akkadian and [script needed] (Zuhma) in Hittite. It was located in the upper Euphrates valley, i.e. close to South-Caucasian tribes, and was at some time inhabited by Proto-Armenians. Cognate with Laz სუმეხი (sumexi).[1]
