Georgian

Etymology

From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old Georgian წუერი (c̣ueri), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Georgian-Zan *c̣wer-. Further origin is uncertain, but see Old Georgian for more.

Cognate with Mingrelian წვანჯი (c̣vanǯi), წვანდი (c̣vandi). Compare also Svan უ̂ა̈რე, უ̂ერე (ûäre, ûere, beard) which may be from the same source (in which case the term can be reconstructed for (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Kartvelian).

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /t͡sʼveri/, [t͡sʼʷeɾi]
  • Hyphenation: წვე‧რი

Noun

წვერი (c̣veri) (plural წვერები)
