Etymology

Neuter substantive of *ἔντερος (*énteros, inside), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁énteros, from *h₁én (whence also ἐν (en, in)) + *-teros (whence also -τερος (-teros, comparative suffix)). Cognates include Russian ятро́ (jatró), Sanskrit अन्तर (ántara), Old Armenian ընդերք (ənderkʻ, entrails), and Latin interior.
