Unicode name INVERTED INTERROBANG
Codepoint U+2E18
 ← Supplemental Punctuation →

Spanish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Inversion of a superimposition of a ! and a ?.

Symbol[edit]

  1. Starts an emphatic question in languages which begin questions and exclamations with inverted punctuation marks.
    Verdad‽ - Really‽

Usage notes[edit]

  • In English, this symbol is (rarely) called a gnaborretni (interrobang spelled backwards) or an inverted interrobang.
  • The same effect is more commonly achieved with both sets of punctuation marks one inside the other: ¿¡Verdad!? or ¡¿Verdad?! Older usage, still official but not widespread, recommended mixing the punctuation marks: ¡Verdad? or ¿Verdad!
