Etymology
[edit]From る (ru, syllable) + 攻め (seme, “attacking”, 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb 攻める (semeru, “to attack”).). The seme changes to zeme as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
