Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Italian pizza,[1][2][3] appears to be a transliteration (based on the original Italian spelling) rather than a transcription (which is ピッツァ (pittsa), based on the Italian pronunciation).

Pronunciation[edit]

Noun[edit]

ピザ (piza

  1. pizza
    ピザ()
    piza-ya
    a pizzeria
  2. (slang, derogatory) fatty; fatso

Usage notes[edit]

  • This form with the /z/ pronunciation is much more common than the ピッツァ (pittsa) form with the /t͡s/ pronunciation.
