Etymology[edit]
From 頭 (“head (beginning)”) + 高 (“high”) + 型 (“form”), literally "(in the beginning the pitch is high)-form".

- The pitch accent pattern in Japanese where the first syllable is accented; i.e., the first syllable has high pitch and all subsequent syllables have low pitch, for example in the word 会う (au).
