Etymology[edit]
From 尾 (o, “tail (end)”) + 高 (taka, “high”) + 型 (kata, “type”), literally "(in the end the pitch is high)-form". The taka changes to daka as an instance of rendaku (連濁). And the kata changes to gata as another instance of rendaku.
