Etymology[edit]

From () (o, tail (end)) + (たか) (taka, high) + (かた) (kata, type), literally "(in the end the pitch is high)-form". The taka changes to daka as an instance of rendaku (連濁).And the kata changes to gata as another instance of rendaku.
