Etymology[edit]
Originally the title for Qiao Feng (喬峰), a fictional character from a wuxia novel by Jin Yong. The epithet 幫主/帮主 (bāngzhǔ) roughly means "chief, lord" and thus this term is used humorously to refer to celebrities whose name begins with the character 喬/乔 (qiáo) in Chinese.
