- It is said that Confucius Temple was built by Duke Ai of Lu in the 42nd year of King Jing of Zhou (478 BCE) on the site of Confucius' former residence. Its scale then was not as grand as it is now. In later dynasties, beginning with Emperor Xiaowen of Northern Wei, emperors throughout history carried out numerous repairs and extensions to the temple.
[MSC, simp.]
