From 감치다 (gamchida, “to linger”, < 감— (gam-, “to wind”)) + ㄹ (-l) + 맛 (mat, “taste”).

- Phonetic hangul: [감(ː)칠맏]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
