Etymology[edit]

First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean 빋ᄉᆞ다 (Yale: pitsota). From (bit, “price”) + ᄊᆞ다 (ssᆞda, “(to) cost”).
