Sino-Korean word from 心臟 (heart). First attested in Mongsanhwasang Beobeoyangnogeonhae 蒙山和尙法語略錄諺解 몽산화상법어약록언해 (mongsanhwasangbeobeoyangnogeonhae, “mongsanhwasang beobeoyangnogeonhae”), 1467, as 심토ᇰ (simthong).
