Etymology[edit]

Nativisation of the Sino-Korean term 우인 (愚人, u'in, “foolish person”) + (-i, noun suffix), with nominal suffix (-i) attached.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [ˈwe̞(ː)ni]
  • Phonetic hangul: [(ː)]
    • Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
