Korean

Etymology

From the Sino-Korean noun 이상 (異常, isang, “peculiarity”) and the native Korean adjective 하다 (hada, “to be a certain way”).

Pronunciation

  • (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [ˈi(ː)sʰa̠ŋɦa̠da̠]
  • Phonetic hangul: [(ː)]
    • Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
