Korean

Etymology

Of native Korean origin. From Middle Korean 크다 (Yale: khuta). From the same source as 하— (ha-). 하다 (hada) and 크다 (keuda) were both used interchangeably to mean big. For example, 한- (han-) + (beul) which is the same meaning as 큰불 (keunbul, “big fire”). Also, 한- (han-) + 아비 (abi) which is the same meaning as 큰아버지 (keunabeoji, “the elder brother of one's father”)
