Sino-Korean word from 湯水, from 湯 (“hot water”) + 水 (“water”). Compare Japanese 湯水 (yumizu, “hot and cold water”).

- Phonetic hangul: [탕(ː)수]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
