Sino-Korean word from 後宮, from (behind, within) + (palace). See also Japanese 後宮 (kōkyū).

  • Phonetic hangul: [(ː)]
    • Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
