Etymology[edit]
Sino-Korean word from 後宮, from 後 (“behind, within”) + 宮 (“palace”). See also Japanese 後宮 (kōkyū).

- Phonetic hangul: [후(ː)궁]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
