Gothic

Etymology

Isolated in Gothic among the Germanic languages. Probably related to Proto-Germanic *tล somehow, but the exact etymology is unclear. If this is a non-Germanic loan in Gothic that was not transmitted through Proto-Germanic, its use would prove the existence of the verb *๐Œฒ๐Œน๐Œฝ๐Œฝ๐Œฐ๐Œฝ (*ginnan) as simplex in Gothic (see ๐Œณ๐Œฟ๐Œฒ๐Œน๐Œฝ๐Œฝ๐Œฐ๐Œฝ (duginnan)). This etymology is incomplete. You can help Wiktionary by elaborating on the origins of this term.
