Etymology[edit]

From [Book Pahlavi needed] (wʾčʾl /⁠wāzār⁠/) +‎ -𐭯𐭲 (-pt /⁠-bed⁠/). Compare Parthian 𐭅𐭀𐭔𐭓𐭐𐭕𐭉 (wʾšrpty /⁠wāžārbed⁠/) and Old Armenian վաճառապետ (vačaṙapet), an Iranian borrowing.
