[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *moytH-o-s, which is from *meytH- (“to exchange”), probably through an Old Latin word related to Latin mūtō (“to exchange, barter”). At any rate, unrelated to the group of ἄμοιος (ámoios, “bad”), μοῖος (moîos, “sad, sullen”) and σμοιός (smoiós, “sad, sullen”).
