[edit]Sino-Korean word from 破擦音, from 破 (“break”) + 擦 (“rub”) + 音 (“sound”).
Compare 파열음(破裂音) (payeoreum, “plosive”) and 마찰음(摩擦音) (machareum, “fricative”).
