-άρα (-áraf

  1. added to nouns to give a augmentative form, expressing large size or affection:
    γυναίκα (gynaíka, woman) + ‎-άρα (-ára) → ‎γυναικάρα (gynaikára)
    πόδι (pódi, foot) + ‎-άρα (-ára) → ‎ποδάρα (podára)
    τρόμος (trómos, terror) + ‎-άρα (-ára) → ‎τρομάρα (tromára, extreme terror)
  2. added to female given names to give an augmentative form:
    Ελένη (Eléni, Helen) + ‎-άρα (-ára) → ‎Ελενάρα (Elenára)
  3. used to indicate a female person of an approximate age:
    είκοσι (eíkosi, twenty) + ‎-άρα (-ára) → ‎εικοσάρα (eikosára, twentysomething (woman/girl))
    σαράντα (saránta, forty) + ‎-άρα (-ára) → ‎σαραντάρα (sarantára, fortysomething (woman))
  4. used to indicate an approximate duration or quantity of something:
    εξήντα (exínta, sixty) + ‎-άρα (-ára) → ‎εξηντάρα (exintára, lasting sixty minutes/sixty of a certain item)
    τέσσερα (téssera, four) + ‎-άρα (-ára) → ‎τεσσάρα (tessára, about four)
  5. used to indicate an automobile engine size:
    χίλια (chília, thousand) + ‎-άρα (-ára) → ‎χιλιάρα (chiliára, (engine of) a thousand horsepower)
